Topical and in many ways timely, this article just popped up on to the radar. When all is said and done, a story of intrigue such as this was just begging to be added to someone’s blog, may as well be mine :-)
One has to wonder how much of a hold J Edgar had over the politicians of the time. Whatever your take on Hoover’s legacy, it is likely many of his founding prinicples are still at play in the world, not just the FBI. Maybe there is a J. Edgar Hoover playbook out there that lays out the basic groundwork for many of those?
How many can claim to have “got one over” on the FBI? As you will see, it is a claim that initially none were keen to claim. The inexorable passing of time has allowed that to be redressed. One can only be amused the FBI were undone so easily and in such a strangely comical manner.
And a “by the way” note to promote NPR since they so rarely do it themselves. NPR is a fabulous organisation, the pieces it publishes are just so entertaining, interesting and thought provoking it is an absolute shining beacon on the US media landscape. Let no one lump NPR with other US news outlets, it covers events inside and outside the US with equal measure and objectivity.
