ARM processors have been threatening to break into the server market for at least a couple of years, but we’ve yet still to some game changing stuff actually happen. A company like Google could make that happen.
Though Google is the proud parent of the Android OS which runs on ARM-based chips and it’s subsidiary Motorola uses ARM technology in it’s phones, Google still seems to be a way from actually committing. Now, who knows what they might be looking at in their labs, I feel sure Google is capable of fluidly pivoting if they decide that is the direction to go.
Regardless of the pro’s and con’s of any such move, for sure any such move would adversely affect Intel who are still struggling to get manufacturers to use their processors.
